Bures School is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled school situated in the heart of Bures, a Suffolk village with the River Stour running through the middle, which marks the boundary between Essex and Suffolk. It was started in 1840 by the Revd Arthur Hanbury, then the vicar of Bures, and the Church of England has been closely involved with the school ever since. Whilst the school is funded by the LA, which employs the staff and manages admissions, the vicar and other members of the church are always on the governing body. We take very seriously our role as a Church School. Our clergy regularly visit the school for assemblies, and support the school in many ways, and our Christian ethos underpins much of what we do as a school.
There are eight classes at the school and our school day runs from 9.00am - 3.15pm. The Nursery class offers part-time Foundation Stage education in the mornings. The other classes for children from Reception Age to Year 6 (4 – 11 years) are organised in single year groups each with a class teacher, and each offering broad and balanced programmes of study in line with the National Curriculum. Learning Support Assistants work with teachers in all classes. The Nursery Teacher is assisted by a Nursery Nurse. Children are taken on school visits and visitors come into school to enrich the teaching and learning. Visit 'Bures Online' to find out more about the history of our school.
We have high expectations for all pupils at Bures School. We aim to promote a love of learning and children's intellectual curiosity. ACHIEVEMENT WITH ENJOYMENT.
